Vintage hardcover edition of Charles Kingsley’s classic Victorian children’s fable, published by The Caxton Publishing Company / International Learning Systems Corporation, London, 1968. Part of the Caxton Junior Classics series. Blue pictorial cloth boards with gilt-lettered title on front cover and spine, and a black-line illustration of a water baby amid seaweed and a starfish. Spine reads “The Water Babies / Kingsley / Caxton Junior Classics” with a small chimney-sweep vignette. 236pp, illustrated by Charles Mozley, no dust jacket (as issued). The story follows Tom, a poor orphan chimney sweep, who slips into a stream after a mishap and becomes a water baby, going on to have transformative adventures underwater.
