The lid is elaborately hand-chased with scrolling acanthus foliage, a beaded\/dotted border, and a wavy engine-turned ground, with a blank cartouche at centre (never monogrammed). The glass body has a faceted, lobed form with a cut star to the underside. Stamped beneath the lid “Made \u0026amp; Guaranteed by The Van Bergh S.P. Co., Rochester, U.S.A.” with pattern number 3821 — Van Bergh operated 1892–1926 before being absorbed into Oneida Community Ltd. Note: “S.P.” denotes silver plate, not sterling; general wear\/tarnish to the lid consistent with age, and light wear to the glass rim.
